MNC Playdates

With Mission Neighborhood Centers and Instituto Familiar de la Raza

On October 11th and 13th we partnered with the folks at MNC and hosted MNC Playdates on site at the Project Commotion studio! Featuring 75 minute playful, active community classes, specifically for MNC families! The classes engage children of all abilities and their adults in play and learning here at our on site movement studio.

The classes included movement and play for children and their grown-ups, and an educational discussion with child development experts from IFR. During this time children were able to be engaged in the space with their grown ups,  and the grown ups got to see the importance of movement and play in development in a firsthand way. Our event was held over the course of two days, with a record 17 families being in attendance over those combined days! And our organization is very grateful for everyone who stopped by and saw what the commotion is all about!

Week of the Young Child 2023

With Mission Neighborhood Centers and Instituto Familiar de la Raza

On April 3rd-6th, we’re celebrating the Week of the Young Child! This year we are partnering with Mission Neighborhood Centers and Instituto Familiar de la Raza to provide a series of free bilingual family movement classes that will engage children and their adults in play, learning, and fun. On Monday and Tuesday, the themes will be Active Play for children and Regulation & Wellness for adults. On Wednesday and Thursday, the class will be focused on Music, Movement, Communication & Language Development!

On Friday, April 7th, we're hosting a capoeira festival for school-age youth and their adults! Please join us for an evening of Afro-Brazilian culture, art, movement and play. This special event will be facilitated by Project Commotion staff, community volunteers, and special guest teacher Mestre Ferradura from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Activities will include arts & crafts projects, music, movement games, and a capoeira roda.

Overall, 113 folks attended our Monday through Thursday sessions and 53 people joined us for our capoeira festival. That's 166 people served! It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and meet new friends.
