Schools on the Move! Partnerships
PC’s Schools on the Move! Program brings movement and play into the lives of children, families and educators.
Our offerings include on-site programming, where school groups come to the PC Studio for either a 1-time or session series of classes, and school residencies, which bring our staff directly into the schools to work with children. School residency sessions can run from 6 weeks to a full school year. In both cases, PC staff work hands-on with children, facilitating play and implementing foundational gross motor activities that help children organize their bodies and brains. Each of our partnerships incorporate professional development trainings for teachers and administrators, with optional workshops for parents. We understand that our work will have a greater impact on the children we serve if we can share our knowledge with their teachers and family members. With this in mind, we help grown-ups incorporate movement into daily activities and deepen their understanding of how movement and play impact children’s development, learning, and ability to self-regulate. Schools on the Move! helps our schools to better serve all children with informed movement curricula and provides opportunities for children to explore and learn through their bodies. Outcomes include increased health and wellness for both children and their parents/caretakers, deeper family connections, and improved social interactions for children in group settings. “In our partnerships we work directly with children, modeling our individualized approach, and we also work with the educators, counselors and administrators to help them understand and implement principles of nurture, responsiveness, movement therapy and sensory integration. We believe that physical interaction cultivates support rather than control; when a teacher assists a student with a somersault, for example, both parties are physically involved with the learning process and it fosters a balance of mutual respect that translates into a relationship outside of the traditional classroom setting. Therefore, during our sessions we encourage interactive play between the students and their teachers. These experiences help strengthen the relationships between the children and adults.”
