Parent Participation in Youth Classes
Parents/caretakers participate in classes with children under the age of 4, and may be invited to participate in classes with older students on occasion.
Classes with Parent/Caretaker Participation:
Roly Polys and Little Ants, 1.5-hour open gym for children ages 0 months - 30 months. See full description (link to children’s class page)
Ladybugs, 50-minute class for children ages 2 ½ - 4 yrs. See full description (link to children’s class page)
Parent & PreK Capoeira Class for Parents/Caretakers AND their children. Parents will get a workout and should dress appropriately for class, in sweatpants or capoeira pants and t-shirt, with bare feet. See full description (link to children’s class page)
Why do we invite parents/caretakers to participate in youth classes?
Child Learning Outcomes
• Attachment: Children feel supported by parent/caretaker in class, and can bridge that attachment when practicing movement with the parent in other settings or in novel situations.
• Empathy: Children are amazed and inspired when watching their parent/caretaker take on the same challenges that are being asked of them. Making the connection that adults need support too builds empathy.
• Relationship Building and Social Skills: Through partner activities with the parent/caretaker, other children, and other adults.
Adult Learning Outcomes
• Self-Awareness: Build better understanding of your own body and sensory awareness.
• Empathy: Through your own experience, gain a sense of skills that children are developing.
• Skills: Learn new ways to stay healthy and to support your child’s learning through movement.
• Relationship Building: Through partner activities with your child, other children, and other adults.
And besides all that, it's fun for everyone!
