Mission, Philosophy, & Vision

The Mission of Project Commotion

Project Commotion’s mission is to support children with special needs to develop healthy neurological connections, which enable them to organize sensory and physical experiences and develop social, emotional and academic competence.

Project Commotion’s target population is primarily underserved youth, ages 15 months - 18 years, with developmental or emotional challenges. Our specific curricula address autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities and differences, cerebral palsy, and trauma. Our adult services are aimed at family members, caretakers, and educators who live and work with children in our community.

Our work is based on the belief that positive, healthy human development must be supported by a strong foundation of physical and sensory awareness. Our approach is to understand each individual child, to value their strengths and limitations, and to help them develop a strong, healthy connection between their body and their brain, resulting in self-awareness and self-confidence. We achieve our mission of fostering positive development through intensive 1-on-1 and small group movement and sensory-integration therapy sessions and by building strong, meaningful relationships with children, families, educators, and the people in their support networks.

Philosophy and Vision

The philosophy of Project Commotion is based on the belief that every person is a unique individual with unique experiences and perspectives, and a unique nervous system and body that affects how they function in the world. Project Commotion's method is to meet children where they are, particularly based on their physical capabilities, sensory awareness, and the development of their brain and central nervous system, and bridge them to the next step in their developmental process in various areas: relational, movement, and sensory. By providing active learning experiences for both children and adults, Project Commotion promotes physical, social and emotional health for our whole community.

Understanding diversity is at the core of Project Commotion's mission. We hope to impact the community through our work by offering free or low-cost services to children and families in financial need. Disability, violence, stress, and health risks do not discriminate, and Project Commotion aims to offer vital services to those who often lack resources to help children in need. By providing services to those affected by these many factors, we aim to empower our whole community, bridging gaps between economic status, ethnicities, cultures, and abilities.
