How PC Started

How did Project Commotion start?

The seeds for Project Commotion were planted when Chagua Camacho-Olguín and Susan Osterhoff enrolled in child development classes at City College of San Francisco in the fall of 2004. As gymnastics and tumbling instructors, both desired to learn more about childhood growth and development in order to increase their understanding of children and improve as teachers. Through their hands-on work experience with children with special needs and their families and coursework exploring sensory processing and physical development, Chagua and Susan began to realize the true benefits of movement programs with children and see how these programs could help children to learn and grow in all areas of development. Their passion for helping children to better understand themselves and relate in positive, healthy ways to the world around them, combined with their understanding of the urgent need for physical development programs in the Bay Area's diverse communities inspired them to develop PROJECT COMMOTION so that they can utilize their skills to promote awareness, equality, empowerment, and healthy living for children and adults throughout the community.
