| Just a few great reasons to support Project Commotion's work:
• Our inspiring classes and 1-on-1 sessions provide nurturing movement experiences for growing numbers of children in our community. • Our community workshops provide educators and parents with a better understanding of how to support the growth and development of the children in their lives. • We provide therapeutic care for children with special needs without resources for expensive programs. • We offer exciting events for children, youth, and families, in an ongoing collaboration with the community. |
Here’s an overview of the services we provide:
PC Youth Outreach Programs (YOP)
In 2009 we launched our Youth Outreach Program. We collaborate with the Oakes Children's Center, serving children with severe emotional and developmental disabilities; Hamilton Family Center, supporting homeless families in San Francisco; and have worked with extensively early childhood programs at Easter Seals and Children’s Village.
PC Adult Outreach Programs (AOP)
In addition to our small group work with children, adults from these agencies are served through Project Commotion Adult Outreach Program (AOP). Instructors have hands-on experiences working alongside the children in YOP’s movement classes. Agency staff from Children’s Village, Oakes, and Easter Seals have participated in workshops covering topics such as self-care, understanding children through sensory integration, and the role of movement in healing trauma.
Community Workshops
In addition to YOP and AOP, PC directors lecture in up to five classes each semester at City College of San Francisco, on topics such as "Supporting Children with Difficult Behaviors through Movement" and “Healing Trauma Through Movement.” Our workshops have been contracted for conferences held by First 5 and DCYF, as well as following organizations: Resolve to Stop the Violence Program, Support for Families of Children with Disabilities, and San Francisco Childcare Providers Association. Pediatric residents from UCSF have observed PC classes to help develop their understanding of how children with special needs can benefit from movement programs, and what activities families can expect when they refer children to PC.
