Above & Beyond Program Frequently Asked Questions

MAS: Movement and Academic Support

General Questions:
  • What grades does this program serve?  1st grade-high school.
  • What days does the program run? Monday-Thursday from 4-6pm.
  • How many days can I enroll my child? You many enroll your child in 1 to 4 days per week, for 1 to 2 hours each day.
  • Do you provide a snack? No, due to the fact that children are with us for only two hours and come to the program with their parents, we do not provide snack. If you know your child gets very hungry after school, feel free to give them some extra snack in their backpack (please no sweet or sugary snacks or peanuts).
  • What is your teacher to student ratio? The ratio is 1:5, with a maximum of 8 children per day.
  • What is your school year calendar?  We observe the SFUSD from August-May.
  • Where are you located? We are located at Project Commotion at 2095 Harrison St. (cross street, 17th St.)

Enrollment/Requirements/The Program:
  • Why is there a prerequisite requiring my child to attend Project Commotion Movement classes prior to enrollment? At Project Commotion we aim to support children and their family as best we can. We find that getting to know a child and their family in a fun, recreational, movement setting first (as well as the child getting to know us) helps to build a relationship where we can help them with their academics.
  • Why are children in the program required to be concurrently enrolled in a movement class? Project Commotion’s philosophy is based around the importance of movement and play. We also find that children have an easier time focusing and learning when they have the movement class as well.
  • Do you offer tuition assistance? As with most of our programs, we also offer tuition assistance for students in the MAS program. If you are interested in the program, feel free to ask for our MAS sliding scale sheet. If you would like help filling it out the form, we can help!
  • I work late, is there anyway you could pick my child up from school to come to MAS? We are currently unable to pick up children at school, due to our staffing capacity.  If you would like to start some sort of carpool with other families we would love to help you get in touch with other families!
  • Do you provide extra academic activities to the children in the program? We do not provide supplemental academic activities.
  • What will my child do while they are in the program? While here at Project Commotion your child will work on their homework and reading. The staff will take time with each child to make sure that they understand the assignments and help the children to better understand the concepts as needed. If children finish their homework early, we also have various games and drawing supplied for the children to use.

Camp Commotion!

General Questions:
  • What ages does your program serve? 5-13 years

  • How many sessions can I enroll my child in? You many enroll your child in as many week long sessions as you like, each week has different themes and activities.
  • Do you provide a snack? Yes.
  • Do you provide lunch? Though we do not provide lunch (you will receive a Dos and Don’ts for lunches in the Camp Commotion orientation packet), we do provide a healthy snack for your children each day. If your child has any dietary or allergy restrictions please inform us on the Extended Day Identification, Medication and Emergency Contact form.
  • What is your staff to student ratio? The ratio is at most 1:5. Camp Commotion has a maximum of 14 campers per week and the staff ratio varies depending on the needs of the children. With full enrollment we will have at least 3 staff working with the children.
  • Where are you located? We are located at Project Commotion at 2095 Harrison St. (cross street, 17th St.)

Enrollment/Requirements/The Program:
  • How do I sign up for Camp Commotion? If you are interested in signing up for Camp Commotion, you may either sign up on our website or in person here at Project Commotion. Remember, your child must have attended at least one full session of Project Commotion Movement classes prior to attending Camp Commotion. (see question below)
  • Why is there a prerequisite requiring my child attend Project Commotion Movement classes prior to enrollment? Here at Project Commotion, our goal is support children’s development through movement and play. We believe that in supporting children, we first need to get to know them and their family. By building a relationship with children and family prior to Camp Commotion, we are better able to support their growth and development during the six hour camp day.
  • Do you offer tuition assistance? Yes. If you would like to apply please ask a Project Commotion staff member. They will give you the Sliding Scale Camp Commotion form to fill out. This will allow you to decide how much money you feel you can pay per day for your child to attend Camp Commotion. If you would like assistance with this form, feel free to ask!
  • Do you have extended day options? Yes. We offer early drop off from 8:30-9am Monday-Friday for $50 for the week. We offer aftercare Monday-Thursday from 3-5pm for $100 for the week ($12.50/hr).
  • My child has special needs, will your camp be able to support my child’s needs? We aim to support all children at Project Commotion. Along with getting to know the children before camp begins, we also have students attend at least one session of classes in order to be able to get to know their needs and how to support them. Once camp begins, we have begun to build a relationship with the children and understand how to support them.
  • My child will need to have a one-on-one aide with them during camp, can you provide an aide for my child? Though we do have a low child to staff ratio, we do not have the staffing to provide a one-on-one aide for your child. If you would like assistance finding an aide feel free to ask one of the staff on the Project Commotion team!
